Montell Fish Atlanta Concert reviews
Smoke is a Joke
His old classics were appreciated, but it was sad to witness a 75-year-old man trying to act like a sex idol. A few of those songs were much too erotic for a man of his age, and witnessing his newer music was painful. To his credit, the man is a legend, and his contribution to Motown music is priceless. "That Place" was a tribute to a female partner's genitalia, with lyrics involving rubbing bodies in the tub in "Love Bath." We found these tunes to be more amusing than sensual, but he dragged these songs out for 6 or 7 minutes each while gyrating and rubbing himself. He follows that with "Love Bath" with lyrics involving rubbing bodies in the tub. The elderly women in the audience seemed to enjoy that part, but for our group it was 40 minutes of our lives we will never get back. Those that applauded were perhaps grateful that he finally finished or didn't listen to the lyrics. The show started 20 minutes late and ended with a 20-minute battle of the left & right sides of the audience competing to determine who could yell the chorus to "Cruisin" the loudest. On the plus side, his musicians were good - especially the sax player. That's always ready for me - there's no place like that place - deep inside of you. The more embarrassed we were for him, the longer he repeated these unusual lyrics.
